Hidden on Costa Rica's remote Osa Peninsula, El Remanso Rainforest Lodge is more than a luxury rainforest lodge: it's an invitation to experience one of the most biodiverse places on the planet in comfort, authenticity, and harmony with nature.

Surrounded by protected rainforest and overlooking the Pacific Ocean, El Remanso offers an immersive wilderness experience unlike anywhere else in Costa Rica. Guests wake to the sounds of howler monkeys, scarlet macaws fly overhead, and wildlife is never far away. Every trail, bridge, and viewpoint leads deeper into a landscape where nature remains remarkably intact.

For more than 25 years, El Remanso has demonstrated that conservation and hospitality can thrive together. The property protects hundreds of acres of rainforest, providing a sanctuary for countless species while offering guests the rare opportunity to experience this extraordinary ecosystem firsthand.

Adventure begins right outside your room. Explore miles of rainforest trails, cross hanging bridges through the canopy, rappel beside waterfalls, soar through the forest on a zipline, or follow a jungle trail to a secluded beach where natural tide pools offer a refreshing escape at low tide. Every experience is designed to connect guests with the incredible biodiversity that makes the Osa Peninsula one of the world's greatest natural treasures.

Whether you are searching for extraordinary wildlife encounters, unforgettable adventures, or simply the rare opportunity to disconnect and reconnect with nature, El Remanso offers an experience that stays with you long after you leave. This isn't simply a place to visit Costa Rica. It's a place to experience one of the last truly wild corners of the planet.

WHEN TO VISIT

The Osa Peninsula is a vibrant, lush destination known for its remarkably untouched wilderness. As a tropical rainforest, it experiences frequent rain showers year-round with a few seasons throughout. January through May is considered the dry season, while May through December are broadly defined as green (or wet) season. July and August are popular months–coined Veranillo de San Juan–with morning sunshine and afternoon rainstorms, while October and November are generally considered the wettest months. Of course, that is also the best time of year to see humpback whales, hatching turtles, and the arrival of many migratory birds.

There are benefits to each season, whether it’s fewer crowds or more sunshine, no matter when you choose to visit El Remanso.

FOR FAMILIES

El Remanso is a wonderful destination for families traveling with young explorers. Kids 12 and under enjoy discounted rates, and in many of the rooms, twin-sized beds can be added to ensure a good night’s rest for the whole family. (Find all accommodation options below.)

UNIQUE SELLING POINTS

Costa Rica’s storied Osa Peninsula is one of the most biodiverse places on earth. It contains one of the last extensive sections of undisturbed Pacific lowland tropical rainforests in Central America, and is home to a vast array of flora and fauna. Plus, it is surrounded by two unique marine ecosystems teeming with wildlife: the Pacific Ocean and Golfo Dulce, one of only a handful of fjord-like gulfs in the world.

At El Remanso, luxury is defined differently. Rather than separating guests from the rainforest, the lodge has been thoughtfully designed to immerse them in it. Spacious accommodations feature open architecture, exceptional natural ventilation, ceiling fans, indoor and outdoor hot-water showers, and private terraces that invite the sights and sounds of the jungle inside. Many villas also feature private plunge pools overlooking the rainforest canopy.

Operating 100% on renewable energy, El Remanso embraces a philosophy of sustainability without compromising comfort. Every decision, from the architecture to the guest experience, is guided by a commitment to preserving the natural environment while offering warm hospitality, exceptional cuisine, and personalized service.

Note that El Remanso does not have air conditioning; an ode to their philosophy of renewable energy described above.

Most people visiting the Osa Peninsula are aiming to visit Corcovado National Park, which is technically just outside of El Remanso. Due to the remote nature of the peninsula, this entails a full-day tour with a few hours of driving and likely boats involved. It is possible, but we encourage guests to take advantage of the onsite activities that El Remanso offers. It is basically a slice of Corcovado National Park without the crowds, making it exclusive for guests to see a plethora of wildlife (without having to spend hours in a vehicle).

El Remanso is a fully-inclusive experience with all meals included and daily tours to choose from. Treatments at the spa and activities outside of the property can be purchased from the concierge at an additional cost.

The team at El Remanso is exclusively local, promoting local economic vitality and equity. Each stay contributes to these efforts to support the local community for generations to come.

BEST COMBINED WITH

There are many ways to combine El Ramoso with excellent pairings in the CK Representation portfolio. One of our best recommendations is to follow El Ramoso with Kurà. It is about a 2.5 hour drive to Uvita from the Osa Peninsula, making it an amazing honeymoon combination for nature lovers.

Alternatively, El Remanso is accessible from Panama, making it a great option to fly into Panama City if needed or desired. That means guests could easily combine with Isla Palenque. It is a total of four hours via car and crossing the Golfo Dulce from Golfito to Puerto Jimenez. El Remanso and Isla Palenque can handle the logistics, or you can use a local DMC. This is definitely one of the most unique combinations in our entire portfolio!

For guests who want to experience an authentic Costa Rica Pacific Coast road trip, they can begin or end by flying into or out of Puerto Jimenez and visit Kurà, Arenas del Mar, and Senda Monteverde also.
